Danakil Depression, ETHIOPIA, December 2007.
The Danakil Depression is the hottest place on earth, the temperatures can reach 63 degrees Celcius (145 degrees Fahrenheut, this desert is more than 100 meter (328 meter)below the sea level.
In this extrems conditions and since several century some ethiopians people from Afar and Tigray ethnical group crosses the Danakil Desert with camel caravan , bound for a Salt mine.
On the way in and back to the mine the daily life is hard and very basic. The challenge is to survive to the heat and to protect the camels.
The caravan travel late in the afternoon and by night as much as possible.
Each pause look the same, the worker unload cautiously the camel, wash the rope, full up the water goat water skin, cook some bread with some hot stone, wash him self and eat a basic cereal powder mix with water, rest a bit, load the camel again and again and start for a new day.
